Captive Care
Anthony Caponetto Reptiles - on the care of carpet_pythons

About This "Care Sheet" I don't really like the term "care sheet" because there is no set recipe for keeping any reptile in captivity. This page just outlines the way I generally keep or have kept carpet pythons and what I've learned along the way. This page isn't meant to be the “final word” on keeping carpets (Morelia spilota) and it's definitely not meant to sound as if my way is the only way. To be honest, Carpets are pretty easy snakes to keep, so there are different methods that will also work quite well. Parts 1 to V1

Carpet Python, General, care & Basic Breeding info

All of these pythons are slender, semi-arboreal species that tend to be nippy when they are young. Once they outgrow this nippy stage they have wonderful curious dispositions. Jungles and coastals are only available as captive born specimens as Australia does not allow exportation. With regards to the Jayans, captive born specimens are preferred as imported individuals have shown to make poor captives.

Centralian carpet pythons by_Darren_Whittaker

Centralian carpet pythons would have to be one of the most beautiful pythons in the world. Their colour varying from dark brick red, almost brown, to bright orange with contrasting bands of cream to yellow surrounded by black. They also come in hypomelanistic form some having no black at all. The hatchlings are a dark muddy brown colour and will change colour with each slough until they reach their adult colouration. They are only a recent discovery being named in 1981 by Graham Gow and given full species status by Kluge in 1993.

Carpet Python (Morelia spilota) - Wardega Piotr

Nomenclature: Latin name of the species is Morelia spilota. The general english name is Carpet python. Subspecies: At the begining I want to point that I refer to wild specimens, because snakes that exist in both american and europian breeding stocks are either randomly or phenotype-judged and classified to certain subspecies. Morelia spilota is a species that often presents very mild phenotypic diversity, so this feature has to be considered with knowledge of its limitation. Of course there is option to count labial scales, but if one subspecies has limits from 150 to 250 , while the other has limits from 190 to 280.
