The Spider Club of Southern Africa (SCSA)

The Spider Club of Southern Africa is a non-profit-making environmental interest group. Our aim is to encourage and develop an interest in arachnids, including spiders, scorpions, solifuges, whipspiders, harvestmen and pseudo scorpions, and to promote this interest and the study of these animals by all suitable means.

African Arachnida Database (AFRAD)

The African Arachnida Database (AFRAD) is an expert information system on the African Arachnida - an umbrella project dedicated to the unification and enhancement of biosystematic research on arachnids in Africa and adjacent islands. It is committed to help conserve the biological diversity of African arachnids through the improvement of scientific knowledge.

Scorpions - by South African Museum

Like the insects and spiders, scorpions belong to the phylum Arthropoda and like the spiders they belong to the class Arachnida but belong to a different order, Scorpiones. See arachnid classification table. Scorpions are a diverse group of arachnids and include 16 families, 159 genera with 1260 described species worldwide.

South African National Survey of Arachnida (SANSA)

Spiders rank seventh in global diversity and are an important predatory group of terrestrial animals. Presently about 40 000 species have been described globally and this is estimated to increase to 170 000. South Africa has a rich fauna and 67 families are known from the region.
