The Pictus Gecko (or Big-Headed Gecko) is a smallish gecko from Madagascar. It is a very pretty gecko, and various colour morphs and phases are appearing as this gecko grows in popularity, such as the xanthic, banded and hypomelanistic morphs.
The geckos of the genus Paroedura are restricted to the island of Madagascar off the southeastern coast of Africa. These geckos vary a great deal in habits and habitat from species to species. Several species, such as P. masobe, P. stumpfii, and P. gracilis are very much arboreal in habits, others such as P. pictus and P. bastardi ssp. are more terrestrial.
Temperament — Young Madagascar Ground Geckos - like most small animals - are highly sensitive to potential threats. They will typically try and escape whenever an attempt is made to pick them up. Despite this initial sensitivity, Madagascar Ground Geckos are actually very easy to handle and adults are typically very docile animals.
Located in Boulder, Colorado since 1994, Captive Bred Geckos provides high quality, captive bred terrestrial geckos to the discriminating collector, gecko enthusiast, and pet hobbyist alike. We have over 20 years experience keeping and breeding reptiles which includes extensive work with leopard geckos and other ground dwelling gecko species, many of the king and milksnake species of the Americas, and several desert lizard species indigenous to the Southwestern United States.
We are working with several lines of Madagascar Ground Geckos, Paroedura pictus. These are very cool little geckos that grow fast and are extremely prolific. We are working with a few long-term captive imports for our F1's along with Hypos, Stripes, and Xanthics.
The Panther Gecko, Madagascar Ground Gecko or Ocelot Gecko is a relatively new addition to the pet trade that is rapidly gaining popularity among lizard keepers. It is a hardy, easy to maintain reptile and if properly cared for, an interesting pet that will live for many years.
We’ve been raising reptiles since 1993, after obtaining a pair of Paroedura Picta. Soon after, we purchased several other species of geckos, as well as various snakes. I have since continued to specialize in lizards and geckos in general, while my wife and daughter’s main passion are the snakes, primarily Boids.
