Captive Care
A-1 Reptiles

Paroedura Pictus geckos are commonly referred to as Madagascan ground geckos. This specie is found on the island of Madagascar and in Africa as well.

Basking Beasts

The Pictus Gecko (or Big-Headed Gecko) is a smallish gecko from Madagascar. It is a very pretty gecko, and various colour morphs and phases are appearing as this gecko grows in popularity, such as the xanthic, banded and hypomelanistic morphs.

Captive Care and Breeding of the Madagascar Ocelot Gecko

The geckos of the genus Paroedura are restricted to the island of Madagascar off the southeastern coast of Africa. These geckos vary a great deal in habits and habitat from species to species. Several species, such as P. masobe, P. stumpfii, and P. gracilis are very much arboreal in habits, others such as P. pictus and P. bastardi ssp. are more terrestrial.

Madagascar Ground Gecko - reptilia.org

Temperament — Young Madagascar Ground Geckos - like most small animals - are highly sensitive to potential threats. They will typically try and escape whenever an attempt is made to pick them up. Despite this initial sensitivity, Madagascar Ground Geckos are actually very easy to handle and adults are typically very docile animals.

We’ve been raising reptiles since 1993, after obtaining a pair of Paroedura Picta. Soon after, we purchased several other species of geckos, as well as various snakes. I have since continued to specialize in lizards and geckos in general, while my wife and daughter’s main passion are the snakes, primarily Boids.
