Natural Habitat
Dwarf Caimans - Shedd

Paleosuchus Trigonatus (Dwarf Caiman)

PALEOSUCHUS TRIGONATUS (Dwarf Caiman) NEONATES TIME BUDGET. Natural history of forest-dwelling animals is often poorly understood because of the difficulties in observing them.

Paleosuchus palpebrosus

COMMON NAMES:
Cuvier's dwarf caiman, Cuvier's smooth-fronted caiman (reflecting the lack of infraorbital ridge found in Caiman crocodilus - leading to the suggestion that Paleosuchus ('ancient crocodile') is an older lineage, branching off from other Caiman over 30 mya), Cachirré, Jacaré pagua; Coroa, Musky caiman

Captive Care

Caimans and alligators are popular within the pet reptile hobby. Dwarf caimans are particularly popular due to their small adult size.
But are they a good pet?

Schneider's Dwarf Caiman - WASA

The Schneider's dwarf caiman has a rather long snout, about 1.7 to 2 times as long as broad at the level of the front corners of the eyes. Its surface is smooth, without transverse or longitudinal ridges. The upper eyelid is nearly completely ossified and with a smooth surface.
