Promoting Your Web Site

Having developed this site for my son, which was my first attempt at a full self standing site, I have had to do some research on the subject. I will continue to do more research and share what I discover with interested parties on this page, as this has now become a bit of a hobby.
Firstly, let me start with the simple stuff. There are sites that provide a service to users, very similar to what we are doing in this site, where users can select a topic and view the sites that have listed under that subject heading. These are ideal sites where one can list your site. It does not really matter how many hits you get from each listing, but if you can achieve both that would be an added advantage. I will explain why the listing of your web site is more important than the hits generated by the listing later in this article.
Also please note that if you are involved in the reptile trade, we publish links free of charge, as do the following service providers but for any type of site.

There are 141925 links for you to choose from! Site well organized with site review and feed back options. Very big form to add a link, but otherwise very cool.
HTML Code Verfication
Ensure all your coding is correct and conforms to the required standards and will work on the vast majority of browsers that are in use.
This site uses Frames and they are not well liked by all browsers and not by search engines. So in our case we have provided users with an alternative method of viewing our site, in case their browser can not support a Frameset, and this also serves as suitable material for the search engine. In addition each page that would normally be presented in the frameset was made Search Engine friendly and these pages were set up to open the main frameset if a user was directed by a search query to a page that would be meaningless when viewed outside the frameset.
HTML Code Verfication Tools
W3C Markup Validation Service, a free service that checks Web documents in formats like HTML and XHTML for conformance to W3C Recommendations and other standards. if you wish to validate specific content such as RSS/Atom feeds or CSS stylesheets or to find broken links, there are other validators and tools available.
If your page passes the test and has no errors you are allowed to display this logo on your page.
